For new apps, you'll need to click through to an app's page. Below the blue Installing button is a progress bar that estimates how many minutes remain before the download is complete. When updating apps, you can see their progress on the Updates tab.

For files you download not from the Mac App Store but from the internet, the Launchpad offers no help. By default, files downloaded in Safari are saved in the "Downloads" section of the Files app, but you can easily customize the storage location: Launch the Settings app, select the Safari section, and tap Downloads. From this screen you can opt to store downloaded files in iCloud Drive, on your iPhone, or in another location of your choosing.

The Downloads screen in Safari settings also includes an option to Remove Download List Items automatically After one day (the default), Upon successful download, or Manually.

To do this, open Safari, click on Safari in the top toolbar and then click preferences, then click General. On this menu click the drop down box next to File download location, and then select a new destination folder for Safari downloads to be saved in.

Another way to immediately access your downloaded files is through the Dock. Your recent downloads are often found on the right side of the Dock in a stack. Hover over it to preview the contents or click to expand it.

When we download content, our computer's store it in a specific place. By default, your Mac stores downloaded content from the Web in the Downloads folder. Access it via the Finder directly or through a browser. You can also change the default location for downloaded files.

A Downloads Stack is included as a part of the Dock unless you have disabled it and displays the contents of the Downloads folder. If you click on the Downloads Stack, it expands to show you individual file thumbnails. If you have many files stored in your Downloads folder, the Stack shows a handful of your most recently downloaded files with an Open in Finder option that takes you directly to the Downloads folder in Finder.

While files downloaded from Safari are stored in the Downloads folder by default, there is another way to view recent downloads from within the Safari browser. Click the down arrow icon next to the Safari address bar to display a list of recently downloaded files. Like Safari, Chrome has its own Downloads section. Select Window in the Chrome menu bar and then Downloads. Alternatively, typing "chrome://downloads" into the address bar displays the same content. Chrome Downloads displays a list of downloaded files organized by most recent download. Selecting Open downloads folder displays the Downloads folder in Finder. Similar to Safari, selecting Clear all wipes the downloads list from the Chrome browser but does not delete the files from Finder.

Select Safari in the menu bar, choose Preferences and then select General. Next to the Save downloaded files to option, select the drop-down menu and click Other to display a Finder window, where you can select any folder or external drive as a new destination for files downloaded in Safari.

Select Chrome in the menu bar and then Preferences to open the Chrome Settings page. Scroll down and select Show advanced settings, then the Downloads category. Click the Change button to open a Finder window, where you can change Chrome's download destination. To be able to choose a destination folder for each download, enable the Ask where to save each file before downloading box.

When the testing period is over, you'll no longer be able to open the beta build. To install the App Store version of the app, download or purchase the app from the App Store. In-app purchases are free only during beta testing, and any in-app purchases made during testing will not carry over to App Store versions.

Note: To automatically download additional in-app content and assets in the background once a beta app is installed in iOS 16, iPadOS 16, or macOS 13, turn on Additional In-App Content in your App Store settings for iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

When browsing a pdf or other web documentS using Safari, you can tap on the link of the page, and it will bring up the screen that shows you different options including the option to download the PDF.

By working with the Files app, Safari lets you download a file locally on your device, to iCloud, or to any supported third-party app. You can also monitor the progress of downloads, stop, start, or cancel them, and jump straight to their location in the Files app, right from Safari's new downloads manager.

By default, iOS will create a new "Downloads" folder in iCloud Drive and set it as your default download location. You can change that to a different location inside iCloud Drive or to a folder within "On My iPhone" so that downloads are locally contained and not eating up iCloud storage.

You can also choose when items are removed from the download manager's list of downloads. Removing downloads will not delete the actual file but will just remove it from the list to keep it from getting cluttered with downloads. By default, it's set to remove items from the manager after one day, but there are a few other options.

Downloading a file from Safari works just like you'd expect. Tapping a link to a downloadable file will open a dialog box confirming you would like to download the file. Once you tap "Download," the file will be added to the downloads manager and start downloading. It will continue downloading until the entire file is downloaded, even if you close Safari or leave the webpage.

If the file you are downloading is something Safari can view, such as media (audio, videos, or images) or documents (PDFs), the download dialog box will also have an option to load the file right in Safari instead of downloading it.
